ABOUT US

Liquefied Petroleum Gas for household distribution commenced in Kerala during as early as in the year 1969 by the erstwhile Burma Shell, a subsidiary of Multinational Royal Dutch Shell.

After the nationalization of the Multinational Oil Companies, the three Public Sector Undertaking Oil Marketing Companies, viz, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation and Hindusthan Petroleum Corporation came into existence.

It is these PSU OMCs which expanded the LPG distribution network in Kerala. Initially the Distributorships was exclusivly earmarked for "Unemployed Engineering Graduates" under the Social Objective Scheme and later stratums of the weaker section were also included.

Later after the 1971 War, Mrs Indira Gandhi included "War Widows" too under the ambit of the scheme.

All India LPG Distributors Federation (Kerala Circle) was formed in the year 1986 as a society, and registered under the Travancore - Cochin Literary, Scientific, and Charitable Societies Registrarion Act 12 of 1955 at Ernakulam vide Reg No 383/ 86.

The background of the formation stems out from an idea mooted at an Indane Convention held at Pandiyan Hotel in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. In those days there were only very few LPG Distributors from among all three Public Sector Undertaking Oil Marketing Companies. The Distributors were from categories under the Social Objective Scheme of the Government of India. There were war widows, members from the weaker section of the society, unemployed graduates; to name a few of the category of the cross section of the Distributors.

It was at the Pandian Hotel Lobby, participants from Kerala met to form an Association. An adhoc committee was formed with Shri Narayanan kutty of City Gas Agencies Ernakulam as Adhoc Committee President, Shri.NPK Nair Coral Gas Mavelikkara, as the Secretary and Shri.E.M.Jabbir Super Gas Agencies, Ernakulam as Treasurer along with 9 members in the committee.

It was an exclusive organization for IOC distributors of this state. During that time there was an nationwide exclusive organization for IOC distributors under the leadershop of Er.L.Munivelu, from Tamilnadu and the IOC Distributors from Kerala had accepted his leadership.

Meantime, in 1985 itself another national organization was formed which admitted all LPG distributors from the three OMCs, under the leadership of Shri.Prathap Dhoshi, a BPC distributor from Bombay. The concept received popular acceptence from all states and Kerala IOC Distributors also tied up with this organisation and had invited our BPC, HPC colleagues to the fraternity and formed the AILDF (Kerala Circle) in 1986.
